Assembly Bill 212

Staff Retention Program

Tulare County Council on Child & Youth Development The intent of the AB 212 Staff Retention Program is to build a skilled and stable workforce to provide high-quality child care and development services at state-subsidized child care center-based programs. Currently in Tulare County, the AB 212 Staff Retention Program provides free professional development trainings and financial incentives for early childhood educators that are employed in subsidized child care centers. In the 2000-2001 Budget Act, $15 million was allocated for child care worker retention programs. The funds were allocated to Local Child Care and Development Councils based on the percentage of state-subsidized center-based child care funds received in that county.

Tulare County has awarded stipends to eligible early childhood educators since 2002. The number of stipends awarded and the stipend amount is contingent on the funding that is received each fiscal year. Even though this program has received a decrease in the budget, Tulare County continues their efforts to support the early childhood educators that are having a positive impact on the lives of children and families each day!
